Metallurgy

Grey Iron

Grey iron is one of the most versatile and most commonly used of all irons worldwide. Grey iron offers excellent machinability and flexibility meaning it can be used for a vast range of applications.

  • Max Weight: 3,000 kg
  • Min Weight: 0.5kg
  • Grades available: GR200, GR220, GR250 (others available on demand)

Spheroidal Graphite (Ductile) Iron

Ductile iron, also known as nodular cast iron, spheroidal graphite iron and SG iron, is a type of cast iron developed to mirror the qualities of mild steel. Ductile iron has much more impact and fatigue resistance compared to grey iron due to its nodular graphite formation. Ductile iron lends itself perfectly to high integrity, complex shapes. Gear rings, ornate balustrading etc.

  • Weight: 3,000 kg
  • Min Weights: 1kg
  • Grades available: 420/12, 500/7, 400/18 (others available on demand)

Ni resist or Austenitic Irons

Developed to either provide special properties or to meet the demands of service conditions that are too severe for conventional or austempered Ductile Irons. Offers extreme corrosion resistance, dimensional accuracy and an excellent surface finish.

  • Max Weight: 2,000 kg
  • Min Weights: 5kg
  • Grades available: BS6438:1986

High Chromium Irons

Developed to provide increased abrasion resistance, wear and heat resistance.

  • Max Weight: 3,000 kg
  • Min Weight: 5kg
  • Grades available: BS4844:1986

Aluminium

We offer a range of aluminium grades in sand castings for both engineering and architectural applications. We have recently invested in a new aluminium melting plant to further increase our capacity for the production of aluminium castings.

  • Max Weight: 600 kg
  • Min Weight: 0.5 kg
  • Grades available: On request (mainly LM6 and LM24)

Lead

We offer a specialist service in the melting of lead. We can melt up to 3 tonnes of lead for simple weight castings for use in the offshore and oil and gas industries.
