Although we are predominantly known as an iron foundry we have seen a large shift in 2016 for customers looking to acquire aluminium castings across all industry sectors. Demand for both engineering and architectural castings has grown to the extent that we have invested heavily in a new aluminium melting furnace to further extend our aluminium castings capabilities. This offers our clients the ability to purchase far lighter castings with excellent metallurgical strength at quick turnarounds.
Our capacity for aluminium based, sand castings is up to 350kg finished casting weight. Castings are made in our smaller airset plant and our greensand moulding area with the capability of making complex castings and guaranteeing excellent casting quality. This process produces sand moulds of considerable strength and accuracy for box sizes of 150mm square up to 7 metres in length. Both long and short production levels are available to all of our clients and we can make castings from both loose patterns, box-less moulds and specifically designed moulding boxes.
Compared to die and permanent mould castings, this process is relatively slow but offers our customers a more economical alternative for small quantity batches, intricate designs or where a very large casting is required. The tooling costs are also greatly reduced offering a low cost solution to medium batch requirements.
Our modern facilities allow us to successfully produce a wide range of castings for a myriad of industry sectors. Recent projects have included 14 decorative, 7 metre long columns, a range of pump and valve castings (average weight 120kg) and over 1000 drainage castings for export. All of our standard catalogue items can be produced in aluminium and we regularly manufacture a vast range of bollards, treads, balustrades and columns to customers all over the UK and Europe.
