We have an incomparable range of standard cast iron railings perfect for exterior use. Our pattern range covers almost every conceivable design requirement and as is broad enough to cover every regional variation throughout the UK and further afield. Indeed some of our patterns date back to the early 1800s and can be found throughout the world in North America, India and the Middle East.
We are in the process of updating our online catalogue which should be ready by the end of 2016 – this will showcase thousands of cast iron railings, cast iron stair bars & newel posts, stair panels, railing panels, cast iron finials, heritage gratings and ventilation grilles to name a few. Over the last 20 years it has become fashionable to use cheap, simple mild steel products embellished with cast iron finials to make them resemble the designs of old but we disagree with this principle wholeheartedly. Why buy cheap, imitation products when you can buy authentic designs and materials made by skilled craftsmen in the UK? We proudly offer all of customers the highest quality, enduring, hand-made products to bring the designs of old back to life and showcase the endless architectural possibilities that cast iron offers.
Specialist Cast Iron Railings
This has been a real speciality of ours for over 190 years – offering an unrivalled service in specialist iron railings. We have carried out hundreds of small and major projects and in the last 100 years and have produced well over 3,000,000.00 individual railing bars and railing panels for contracts throughout the world.
However, on a lot of occasions, standard designs just won’t do and we are often asked to commission some truly extraordinary exterior cast iron railings. All of our specialist iron railings are made using only traditional methods and all of our trade skills have been handed down from generation to generation since we were established during the industrial revolution in 1820. We provide a bespoke service producing the most intricate and ornate patterns in our own, traditional pattern shop. All enquiries for new and special work are always welcomed and our technical sales team will be happy to deal with any request.
In our opinion iron railings have an aesthetic charm that cannot be matched by other materials in any application (which is hopefully apparent from the photograph of a recently completed job!) Unlike steels or plastics, cast iron can form any shape required, offering an almost endless array of design possibilities. Take a walk through any British city and it is often the heritage railings, balconies and gates that catch the eye.
Iron railings are also beautifully sustainable; all of the castings across our range are made from 100% recyclable materials – we turn old, scrap castings into new items. We buy unwanted railings, old machinery parts, general scrap iron and turn this into the castings in the photographs in this article. As iron is wholly recyclable the process of making castings is completely sustainable and will continue long into the next century. Indeed cast iron is a Greenpeace recommended material. We really don’t think there can be a greater commendation for the environmental properties of cast iron than this. It should also be noted that cast iron is naturally durable for up to 100 years – it is one of the most durable metallurgical products known to man. Many of the railings you see in our city centres will be over 100 years old and still holding pride of place today.
We are passionate about three things; cast iron, heritage and quality. In a culture with a surfeit of branding and cheap mass-produced goods, we proudly produce the handmade using traditional methods because, like you, we yearn for quality above all else. And this is always apparent when we take on any specialist cast iron railing job.
